I Turned My Life Into A Video Game
Stop levelling up in games, and do it in real life
There was a decade long period in my life where all I did was play video games. And I know everyone says this but I genuinely only played video games. I would wake up, go to school if I had too and then play video games and bring food up to my musty room to keep playing. I swear I would average 11 hour days.
And I’m at a point now where I haven’t played video games for almost 3 years— and I gotta say it’s pretty nice.
If you were like me you had no friends hangout with in real life and your life is a bit miserable so you play games to either escape reality or just have somewhere else where you feel better. A level 100 kingpin in GTA feels nicer than being the average Joe.
So we need to make our actual lives less miserable and want to live in it. And there’s a few fixes, the first one I took action on was working out.
You don’t need a gym, I did body weight only for about 3 months before I got my parents to get dumb bells and I made very good progress in that time. Please don’t let an absence of anything hold you back from starting.
Eventually you should become addicted to improving yourself by taking this more seriously. Find a workout routine you like. Key word like. because if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing you’re going to have to operate on discipline and when you do things because you have to instead of because you want too, instead of it bettering your life it worsens it. The times you do best are when you want to, not have to.
When it comes to diet, K.I.S.S- keep it super simple. Or keep it simple, stupid. Just cut out bad foods and do it once a month, say you start with chips, then fast food, etc. And eventually you’ll get to a point where it’s only meat, vegetables, fruit and basic foods like that.
I don’t know what your home life is like but if you can, start hanging out with your parents or siblings— when it comes to family you can literally do anything from fighting each other for fun, going out or just talking about life.
The biggest one for me and you most likely— Turn your interests into a project/business. You could try and produce the things you usually consume. Unless it’s something degenerate or bad (like video games.) What I did was start a business out of an interest, I like leading, teaching and being part of a team.
Of course you can do something just because it’s enjoyable and that’s ok as long as it doesn’t negatively affect your life.
If you can’t think of how you could sell your interest or project but you want too, try incorporating it into what you’re selling. Say like me it’s being in a team or being in charge, you can’t really sell that. But you can incorporate those things into hiring people or starting a community. You don’t even have to be creative, there’s a million basic businesses like lawn care, gyms, etc that you could start and use your interests into starting it up and growing it.
Last thing is friends. Your friends who play video games are most likely bums… Try and see if at least one of them would try to make the change with you. But there’s a 90% chance they won’t because they only care about the momentary pleasures from games. So you might have to do it alone but that’s ok because it’s better to have no influences over bad influences.
Say your friend wants to give up games with you and start improving your life, you can go over with them everything we just went over.
Make it a goal
Add new routines or habits
Improve your body
Hangout with friends or family
Interests - Project/Business
Change your friends
I appreciate you reading, have a good one.
