Not Going/Don't Wanna Go Uni? Here's My Advice

Here's what I did and am doing instead of going to post secondary as well as how I got my family to agree with the decision.

In my first job I remember seeing a pile of job applications and most of them had uni degrees, that was the rejected pile… I hadn’t even graduated high school yet and I had the job.

After seeing that it not only confirmed it but also confirmed the fact that you Don’t need school to succeed. I’ve always known that school was a scam and a machine to make you as common of a person as possible and but this Really confirmed it for me.

Unless you’re a lazy shit who does nothing, but in that case you probably won’t be successful no matter what you do:(

Most of the successful people and business owners I know didn’t go to or dropped out of college or university. Main reason most as well as I didn’t go is because school’s main objective isn’t to make you rich. It’s to make you a part of the system, someone who does what they’re told.

That’s the reason I didn’t go. The only thing holding me back in the beginning was my family. And I’ve realized that’s the main reason a lot of people go. But the way that I was able to overcome it and how I’d do it again is to be able to show yourself as competent. After my first job I was saying to my mom “I’m not going to uni” and she was in disbelief because ‘everyone’ goes and if you don’t go you won’t be successful and you’ll live under a bridge and your wife will some 70 year old alcoholic and on and on.

And at first she was rejecting it but later on she asked “why?” And I told her I don’t want some regular job ever and that’s all uni wants to do to you. I also told her about the success of all the other people I knew who were successful in business who also didn’t go, I gave my longterm plan, and then the last thing that allowed my family to let me do what I wanted to do was proof. By this time I had started the main business which is fairly good and they saw the success. As well as the success I had the year prior from my sales job and this was the main thing that allowed me to not go and especially silence the “Why aren’t you going to university” comments from them.

And my recommendation to you if you’re at this point too, before you say you aren’t going to school try and get some results. Because no one will take serious the kid who can’t make money, can’t control how many times he nuts a day or someone who just doesn’t seem like they’ll make it. So like I was saying earlier try and get some proof of you being able to get some money and success without the need of traditional schooling.

And if you don’t go to post secondary it does NOT mean that you can just chill. This is a big commitment we’re taking, you need to keep learning, and work when most are having fun. The biggest advantage of not going is that you have a Lot of time on your hands. And if you waste this you’ll be very far back in life.

So here’s what should you do to stack proof and then be able to make the most out of the high school life

  • Work/business

  • Learn

You need money— and the only way to make money is to work for it. Be it you find customers and provide value to them or you find work and provide value to your boss. Super simple, don’t worry about investing until you have at least $5K + a month or two of expenses saved. For me I went the business route because my ultimate goal is to always be in business so it made more sense for me to start soon and start skill stacking. If you’re kinda iffy about what you wanna do, start with working with others because then you at least have the money and you get to see how someone else runs their business.

Now the thing with education is that I love it, you always should be learning. What I don’t like is how and what they teach you in school. So for learning I’ve always just stuck to books, videos and mentors. Even for the last 2 years of high school, I just did not care and I would just be listening to podcasts all class. So please don’t be one of those people who finish school and never learn anything else, because they are true idiots of society. Which to be fair you aren’t since you’re reading things like this.

Also if you do work with someone else, really try and learn how they run their business as well why they do certain things, or market a certain way, etc. Because the biggest thing holding you back from your goals is time and what you know. And then how you use that knowledge in that time is how you get what you want.

And as a mix of the two, people. You wanna always meet new people. Because the next person you talk to could be the next best thing to help you with your goals or you guys could work together and do some really big things. If you saw my video on me asking my mentors for their best advice, it was only possible because I talked to them. Even in my business, I had the best team this summer and the only way we worked together and made money together was by us talking to each other and introducing ourselves to each other. Don’t be a nerd who sits inside all day and make some new friends, because you never know where it’ll lead you.

So all in all if you don’t wanna go to post secondary or aren’t going,

  • Have some proof before telling your parents you aren’t going (money, customers, essentially some small success)

  • Get straight to work with a business or working with/for someone else

  • Don’t stop learning

  • Meet and become friends with other like minded people

I hope this helps you out especially if you’re thinking of not going or even if you’ve already committed to not going. Because this is exactly what I focused on and how I went about telling my family.

Thank you for reading, never stop pushing for what you want in your life and enjoy your day:)
